DARING Class

 destroyer

These big (for the time) gun destroyers were laid down at the end of the Second World War, but did not start to enter service until 1952. Although DECOY was temporarily fitted with a Seacat missile launcher for trials in 1963, it was later removed and never fitted to the remaining ships of the class. Stretched to their limits in terms of space and topweight for new sensors and weapons, these ships never received major alterations or upgrades, and were all removed from active British service by around 1970. The RAN built several of these ships, and kept one of them in service until 1987.
