QUEST is one of two oceanographic and research vessels to serve the postwar Navy. The other, ENDEAVOUR, was paid off during the 1997-98 period. QUEST has recently undergone a 42.5 million dollar refit to extend her service life, and to make her capable of supporting new test programs, including the new TIAPS towed sonar array to be fitted to the HALIFAX class frigates. Presumably she will replace HMCS NIPIGON (paid off 1998) in this respect. While technically a naval ship, she is civilian-manned.
