An hours search of the area in which DENVER was joined by two blimps and the U.S.S. ROCKFORD and U.S.S. CARSON CITY failed to discover any survivors. Position at time of crash was 32o 27’ 30" N,. 117o 58’ W. 1325 Two of the planes making the simulated attacks collided in air and crashed into the sea. These planes were from Fleet Air Detachment based at North Island. Ship’s position at time of crash, Lat. 32o 27’ 30" N; Long. 117o 58’ W. Planes crashed into water on approximate bearings of 030o and 050o, distance about one half mile. 1326 Changed course to right to 050o T (PGC) and commenced maneuvering on various course and at various speed in order to pick up possible survivors. 1330 Lowered No. 1 motor whale boat into the water. 1330 Two escorting blimps plus the U.S.S.
