Built in 1913, the S.S. Kyle served as one of
a fleet of coastal boats, supplying the outports of Newfoundland and serving
as ferries. She served in this capacity until 1959, when she was sold. During
a storm in 1967, she broke her mooring lines and ran aground in Harbour Grace,
NF, where she lies today. Sandy McClearn photo.

The remains of the S.S. Ethie, which
was wrecked on the western coast of Newfoundland in December of 1919. As
recently as 1980, some of the hull was still intact, but now there is nothing
left that resembles a ship. The remains can be seen in Gros Morne National
Park. Sandy McClearn photo.

Caked in snow, two ECTUG tugs (with
Point Vigour at left) sit idle at the ECTUG wharf
in Halifax, NS. Six of these 1000hp tugs were built for
Foundation Maritime
in the 1960s. The remnants of Foundation Maritime later became ECTUG,
and they use the same wharf that Foundation Franklin (made famous
by Farley Mowat's book Grey Seas Under) used during the 1930s and
1940s. Sandy McClearn photo.
