Leviathan was the last of six Majestic class light fleet carriers, a variant of the wartime Colossus class design. All six ships were launched late in the war and laid up incomplete awaiting future use. Five of the six were eventually completed for other navies - none ever served the Royal Navy. Leviathan was the only member of the class never completed. Instead, she was stripped of parts to support other carriers, and her boilers were eventually removed for ex-HMS Venerable when that ship was sold for foreign service. Leviathan served as an accommodations hulk for a period of time, and was scrapped in 1968.
