These are the first ships built on BIW's new Land Level Transfer Facility, a modern shipbuilding facility built to replace the old inclined ways. A few weeks after this photo was taken, Chafee was rolled into the new floating drydock (right), from which it will be launched in November 2002. The mast visible at extreme right is aboard Mason (DDG 87).
