Destroyer Kwanggaeto (DD 971)

[THUMBNAIL] View from Kwanggaeto's bow, looking aft towards the gun and superstructure. The 3,855 ton Kwanggaetto is the lead ship of a class of three destroyers, the largest currently in Korean service. They are Korea's most capable warships.

[THUMBNAIL] A view of the 5 inch(127mm)/54 caliber OTOBreda gun and the Mk48 Sea Sparrow vertical launch system.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Closeup view of the 5/54 gun from deck level.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Overhead view of the 5/54 gun and VLS. The guns and cranes in the background are aboard Tae Cheong, moored alongside.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] View from the bridge looking over the 5/54 gun and VLS. The Mk48 VLS accommodates 16 Sea Sparrow missiles. The Mk48 seems to be considerably bulkier than the US Navy's Mk41 VLS, housing only 16 missiles in a space that appears large enough for a 32-cell Mk41.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Another closeup view of the Mk48 VLS. The equipment on deck beside the VLS is UNREP gear.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] One of the ship's two 30mm Goalkeeper CIWS, with a missile director and the foremast in the background.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] A second view of the Goalkeeper CIWS. The larger "dish" antenna is a missile director behind the CIWS.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] A broadside closeup of the Goalkeeper and its fire control radars.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] View from the superstructure looking aft, with the angled uptakes at center, and four of the ship's Harpoon missiles beyond.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] View looking aft on the starboard side, showing the ship's boats, 12.75 inch (324mm) torpedo tubes, and uptakes.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Closeup view of one set of 12.75" torpedo tubes.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] The other end of the torpedo tubes.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] View looking up into the superstructure on the port side. The equipment on the platform at center is a Dagaie Mk2 decoy launcher system, one of two installed on the ship.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] A Korean sailor with the decoy launcher.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] A view of Kwanggaeto's spacious and uncluttered bridge. Note the wood trim and false ceilings.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Kwanggaeto's helm. The equipment seems unusually simple for a modern naval vessel - and note the speaking tubes!
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Kwanggaeto has a large helicopter hangar, capable of accommodating two Lynx helicopters.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] The ship's Lynx helicopter on deck.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] A group of Korean officers with the helicopter.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Another Korean officer in front of the helo.

[THUMBNAIL] A closeup view inside the helo's cockpit.
[Hi-Rez Image]

[THUMBNAIL] Two dummy Sea Skua missiles carried by the Lynx helo.
