Eugene F. Price (No. 839) was purchased by the Navy and commissioned on 29 June 1917, Lieutenant W. S. Durkee, USNRF, in command. She was enrolled in the Naval Coast Defense Reserve and attached to the 2d Naval District for minesweeping and patrol duties. She was decommissioned and subsequently stricken from the Navy List on 17 May 1919.
