Hornby (PF--82), originally designated PG--190, was built under Maritime Commission contract by Walsh-Kaiser Co. Inc., Providence, R.L Intended for use by the United Kingdom, she was reclassified PF--82 15 April 1943, renamed Montserrat, and launched 27 September 1943, Mrs. Harry Gray as sponsor. Montserrat was then completed and transferred under Lend-Lease to the United Kingdom 31 August 1944 as part of the 12-ship "Colony" class. She served as a patrol and escort vessel until being returned to the United States 11 June 1946. The frigate was subsequently sold to John J. Duane Co., Quincy, Mass., 30 November 1947 and scrapped.
